Here at Daystar Retirement Community, we understand the importance of living a full life, and that's why we focus on all aspects of healthy living. There are all sorts of activities to enjoy as well as a wide variety of fitness programs to keep you in your best shape. Our dining room offers a full selection of menu offerings at every meal, and because we have a dietitian on site you can be sure they'll work with your primary care provider if you have any special dietary requirements.
Enriching Lives, Building Community.
Every decision we make must satisfy two basic requirements. One, it must enrich lives and two, it must build community. This is our mission. We also adhere to five core values, which are to
1. Be Dedicated
2. Be Optimistic
3. Be Trustworthy
4. Embrace Change
5. Seek to Understand
Every team member is reminded of these core values by the coin they receive to carry with them each day.
Daystar Executive Director
Director of Dining Services
I have been in the Food Industry for almost 15 years. I started as a Dishwasher at 17 years old and later cross trained as a server then cook. My mother is from the Philippines so I would always be drawn in the kitchen to learn traditional Filipino dishes. Soon thereafter my hobby turned into a passion. I became like a sponge absorbing and mastering each station and job, slowly climbing the ladder. I worked Corporate Hotel for my first 4 years, Non-profit Retirement homes for 4 years, Small Business Fine Dining for 4 years and Government Hospital for 3 years. All my experience has given me a holistic approach and prepared me for where I am at today.
I want the food to be the highlight of each residents day and I strive to put love and care each time I prepare a meal. What I really love about working in retirement communities is the interaction with the residents. I want to hear all their concerns and feedback. The Residents are at the top of my pyramid of priorities. I want to do everything in my power to make each meal better than the last.
Daystar Assistant Executive Director
Eva Thomas began working at Daystar as a housekeeper in 1993. She has been with the company for 25 ½ years and has held many jobs here, working her way up to become our Assistant Executive Director.
Eva really enjoys working for Powell Communities. She feels that it is truly a family-oriented organization. Everyone is a joy to work with, and the company really makes it easy to come to work every day- they sincerely work with you to achieve your dreams.
She strives everyday to not only connect with the seniors in our community, but also to make them happy, and to forge positive, caring relationships with them and their families.
When not at work, Eva loves to spend time with her 8-year-old grandson, as well as on her photography hobby.

The Powell family takes pride in creating Daystar a place where so many people call home today.
Built out of the Huntington Park community's expressed need for an assisted living facility in the 1980's (before assisted living facilities were even an option) Monte Powell and his family worked to strategically to build Daystar and provide senior care. Now, 40 years later, Daystar Retirement Village also offers 55+ Living and Independent Living to seniors in West Seattle.
You'll be surrounded by personal touches, from the year-round splendor of gardens created by avid gardener Monte Powell to home interiors touched by the talented hands and heart of his wife Diane. A family dedicated to always offering the best of life's comforts, safety and convenience is the foundation of their success. They have invested love and personal care in the apartment homes they've created and in those who live and love it here.
A caring and devoted staff is always on duty, fulfilling the Powell promise of making Daystar a place you'll be proud to make your home.
